Concept - What is it?

  • The Detroit Red Wings 2007/08 Officially Licensed Medallion Collection is a series of 21 medallions, showcasing 20 players from the Detroit Red Wings, plus a special team commemorative.
  • The collection is licensed by the NHL, NHLPA and the Detroit Red Wings.
  • The front of the player medallions feature photos, names, jersey numbers, and positions of the 20 Detroit Red Wings players.

  • Each medallion is placed onto a color backing card featuring product and price information, etc… then will be sealed in a clear cellophane bag.
  • These medallions will be housed in a full-color, glossy collector’s album that includes player profiles, an article on the team, and a special page to hold all 21 medallions.
  • There is 1 medallion to collect each day for 21 days.

Mechanics – How does it work?

  • To launch the collection, a FREE Detroit Red Wings Album will be available with the ‘FREE Album Coupon’ printed in the Sunday Free Press on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Readers can take the coupon to any participating retailer and redeem it for their FREE Album, while supplies last.
  • On launch day, Sunday, March 30, full instructions on how to complete the medallion collection will appear in the Sunday Free Press
  • The first ‘Medallion Coupon’ will appear in the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News on Monday, March 31, 2008. Coupons will continue each day for a total of 21 days. Readers cut out the coupon and present at any participating retailer to purchase a medallion for $2.99 plus applicable tax.
  • A different Detroit Red Wings medallion will be released/available each day for the 21 days.
  • Each of the 20 player medallions will showcase a different Detroit Red Wings player, plus there is a special team commemorative medallion – 21 medallions total in this collection.
  • Readers will be able to collect all 21 medallion and everyone who buys the medallions each day, will be able to complete their set.

Pre-Launch and Free Album Questions and Answers

Q1. When does the promotion launch? (or any other questions pre launch)

  • A. The promotion launches with a ‘FREE Detroit Red Wings Album Coupon’ printed in the Sunday Free Press on Sunday, March 30. This coupon is redeemable at select participating retailers only for the FREE Album. Full details about how to take part and continue the medallioncollection will be printed in the newspaper that same day.

Q2. How do I get my Free Album?

  • A. The FREE Album is available to readers on Sunday, March 30, while supplies last. Readers must clip the FREE Album coupon, printed inside the Sunday Free Press on March 30, and present it to a participating retailer to obtain their FREE Album.

Q3. I couldn’t find a newspaper to buy to get my FREE Album coupon? How can I get my album?

Q1. How do I collect the medallions?

  • A. Simply buy the Detroit Free Press or The Detroit News each day, cut out the ‘Medallion Coupon’ and take it to any participating retailer. You can buy that day’s medallion for only $2.99 plus tax. There is a new Detroit Red Wings medallion released each day and the very first medallion will be available on Monday, March 31, while supplies last. Original coupons only…facsimiles or photocopies will not be accepted.

Q2. How many medallions are there in a set?

  • A. There are 21 medallions in a set.

Q3. How much do the medallions cost?

  • A. The medallions are $2.99 each plus tax with an original newspaper coupon.

Q4. Can I purchase the whole collection at once?

  • A. NO, the medallions are released one per day and you need one coupon from the newspaper to buy that day’s medallion for $2.99 plus tax.

Q5. Can I buy the medallion without the newspaper coupon?

  • A. A new coupon is printed in the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News each day. The location of the coupon will usually be disclosed on the front page of the newspapers daily.

Q7. I went to a participating retailer with my coupon and they had sold out of that day’s medallion – how do I get my medallion?

  • A. We sincerely apologize for this – the promotion has been extremely popular and unfortunately these things can happen…if you take the newspaper to the newspaper office: Detroit Media Partnership, 615 W. Lafayette Blvd., Detroit, 48226, starting Monday, March 31, 2008, we will replace it for you.

Q11. Which players are featured in the collection and why weren’t other players featured?

  • A. The 20 Detroit Red Wings players featured in this collection were approved by the Detroit Red Wings, NHL and NHLPA and are correct as of January 18, 2008.

Q12. Why can’t I get the album / medallions at XXX retailer?

  • A. The collection is available at select participating retailers only.

Q13. How do I put my medallions in the album?

  • A. These instructions are also printed inside the album for reference:
    Instructions on How to Place Medallions in Your Album
    1. Remove the capsule and medallion from the backing card by pushing them through the back of the card.
    2. Turn to the medallions page of your album. Each medallion spot is reserved for a particular medallion featured in the collection, there are 21 medallions in all.
    3. Slide the capsule underneath the top edge of the medallion hole.
    4. Snap the bottom and side edges into place underneath the edge of the hole.
    5. Rotate the capsule until the medallion is in the correct upright position.

Q14. Can I get a refund?

  • A. No – there is a non-refundable policy.
